Differences Between Type 8 and Type 3 in the Enneagram

It indicates that you have yet to discover your Enneagram type. I will inform you that you are not an 8 tied with a 3. However, I can assist you in identifying your kind. I can tell you this much for sure. Whether we like it or not, the Enneagram is a legitimate and established system of personality types that we are, identify with, and utilize on a daily basis.

To the untrained eye, eights and threes might seem to be same. They both talk about power. But Eights value power more. Power is important to an Eight. When it comes to a Three, they are everything. Did you notice that? Image is the key to the threes.

When given the chance, eights like taking the lead and are the boss. Taking command of others is not necessary for threes; they naturally lead others without controlling them.

The traditional workaholics are threes. Their job follows them home, and they are always working. This issue does not affect eights.
Threes are the quintessential autocrats; they speak what they want to express and don’t need to explain it. They don’t provide a democratic vote. Threes often converse to each other in a one-way fashion. They tell you stuff in order to communicate. The opposite is not true. They have poor hearing. My dad received a 3. Take it from me; I spent forty-five years of my life with him. He taught me a lot of things. He constantly worked hard. His thoughts were his own. He could be obstinate. No one could convince him differently once he had a belief.

The heart center is where threes originate. They base their choices on their emotions. This is a very intriguing quality among the three; despite their (occasional) dictatorial exterior, they are genuine heartfelt individuals.

The stomach center is where eights come from. They act instinctively while making judgments. They ask queries after making rash judgments. They don’t need to have strong feelings about it. They are not required to consider all options. Compared to Threes, Eights are more intuitive. Eights tend to be more impetuous. Steps are skipped by eights like nines. Even if they are instinctive rather than systematic, they nonetheless get the right answer.

Eights get their energy from fighting, thus they adore it. You had best be prepared if you start a battle with an eight. An 8 will almost never turn down a battle. The three choose their conflicts more wisely. There are both mental and physical 8s when it comes to battling. The physical eights will battle with you on the street and in bars. The mental 8’s are capable of purposeful verbal abuse and political attack, such as in the workplace. They don’t even need to touch you to beat you up.

Threes have a timeless quality: they never acknowledge their mistakes. For a 3 a failure is just an unfulfilled ambition. They don’t even know what the term failure actually means! Even if they don’t succeed, threes put a lot of effort into becoming seen and successful. Out of pride, 3’s often make unfulfillable promises. Three-year-olds struggle with expressing “I’m sorry” and with rejection (they don’t actually accept rejection). However, 3’s do have the highest work ethic on the whole chart and will put in extra hours without being paid if necessary (to get the task done). This is where you may check yourself.

Surprisingly, eights will yield to someone with greater authority or personal strength, but three's won’t. This is due to the fact that 8s respect authority and are aware of their position in the food chain.

Eights love to show preference for those they choose to protect or assist, and they have a genuine ability for compassion. Simply said, threes don’t do this in this manner. Threes will seem more equitable.

I could do this all day, man. The differences between the 8 and the 3 are many. Both 8s and 3s are forceful, yet the 8s may be vicious while the 3s are more poetic. Threes are more profound, whereas eights are more “surface.” However, they both have the ability to be committed to a cause. Another name for this is loyalty (to a cause). This is particularly noteworthy for both the 3 and the 8.

I think I got my message across. I haven’t even explored the Wings yet. Whereas the 3’s have the 2 and the 4 wing, the 8’s have the 7 and the 9. This makes things much more expansive. You will discover yourself if you search for yourself. My great conclusion, one last analogy. An Eight personality type is:

Yes, — Darth Vader! Other classic 8’s: Clint Eastwood, Queen Latifah.

And a Three is:

Yes, Poe Dameron! Other classic 3’s: Oprah Winfrey, Dwayne Johnson.
