Who Really Invented the Enneagram? Debunking Myths About Ichazo, Naranjo, and Ochs

Although there are signs of subjects that are linkable to it even back to ancient Greek with Pythagora and to the Ennead in ancient Egypt, the Enneagram as a personality typology system is considerably more modern. Pythagoras was in ancient Greece, and the Ennead was in ancient Egypt. This highlights Enneagram ancient origins and Enneagram history.

In a strict sense, Oscar Ichazo is the one who came up with the idea of using the Enneagram as a typology system. He was also a fantastic example of intellectual 9 that was lost in distribution, despite the fact that Ichazo’s theory was referred to as Proto analysis. The Enneagram was initially made accessible to the general public starting in 1970. This describes Oscar Ichazo Enneagram and Ichazo Protoanalysis.

Claudio Benjamin Naranjo devised the “Enneagram of Personality” in an attempt to sidestep violating Ichazo’s copyright. Naranjo provided the psychological description of the various categories. Considering that Naranjo’s version of the Enneagram was the second diffusion of the model, which began in 1971, it is significant. This illustrates Claudio Naranjo Enneagram and Naranjo Enneagram of Personality.

I should also mention that Ichazo was NOT the source of the subtypes. From Naranjo, they originated. To provide more clarification, Naranjo and Katherine Fauvre worked together as co-teachers, and throughout the course of their collaboration, they confirmed each other’s study on the instinctive subtypes. This is the Enneagram subtypes history and Fauvre instinctual subtypes.

In spite of the fact that Naranjo made a significant number of contributions, he failed miserably when he attempted to combine the DSM with the Enneagram. In addition, I would like to point out that Naranjo made the false assumption that phobia and counterphobia in sixth graders were tied to instinct, although Katherine Fauvre’s empirical research demonstrate that all sixth graders who are able to reach those states are affected by them. This highlights Naranjo DSM Enneagram and Enneagram research history.

In my perspective, the most appropriate way to handle Naranjo is as an early author who participated in his own way, with a gentle reminder that the Enneagram continues to develop. This emphasizes the evolution of the Enneagram.

In 1971, Robert Ochs initiated the third distribution of the Enneagram, which is often referred to as the “Jesuit” Transmission. This describes Robert Ochs Enneagram and Ochs Jesuit Transmission.

In addition, Ochs distributed false information about integration and disintegration by asserting that the lines of connection are one in integration and the other in disintegration. This sort of distribution did not have the subtypes. Ochs participated in a training session led by Naranjo, during which Naranjo tested out the concept… That is, to throw it away in a prompt manner. This illustrates Enneagram integration and disintegration history and Enneagram dissemination history.

How come? Among the trialectical systems is the Enneagram. When everything is operational, the whole system is operational. On the other hand, while it is down. That is to say, both lines are simultaneously engaged in integration in a good way and disintegration in a bad one. This is the Enneagram trialectical system.

With that being said, Och was a one who was concerned with the concept of sin and redemption. He enjoyed the thought that one may be in one direction and the other could be in another… Not only that, but it spread like wildfire.

Katherine Fauvre’s research investigations, which were conducted in 1985, marked the beginning of the fourth dissemination of the Enneagram. Fauvre made several significant contributions to the Enneagram community, including the correction of disinformation such as Ochs’s assertions regarding integration and disintegration. Her most prominent contribution was the creation of Tritype®. This highlights Katherine Fauvre Enneagram and Enneagram Tritype history.

Two other particularly noteworthy points of the fourth dissemination are that both a Professional Jungian analyst that Katherine Fauvre met in 2000s as well as most recently me have both managed to add the hindbrain to Jung’s original work and in the result expanded Jung’s original work to trialectical state thus matching the Enneagram perfectly — each with own respective unique style — which gives further validity to both Enneagram and Jung. This is the Jungian Enneagram.

Hekatior is the term I gave to my own original extension of Jung’s work, which I labeled my own unique expansion. V3 already had a trialectical structure, and as of right now, I have just launched version 7. This is the Hekatior Enneagram.

Thank you very much.

To further your understanding, consider exploring resources such as Oscar Ichazo's original Enneagram teachings, Claudio Naranjo's Enneagram books and lectures, and Katherine Fauvre’s Tritype theory. You can also research the Enneagram and Sufi traditions, and learn about the Enneagram and ancient numerology. Remember, the Enneagram continues to evolve, and ongoing research contributes to its development.
